According to Gartner’s latest report, Huawei, oppo and vivo, the local brands in China, continue to make efforts. In 2016, the global mobile phone market as a whole shipped 1.5 billion units
According to a report released by Gartner, an information technology research and consulting company, the global mobile phone market’s overall shipment volume in 2016 was 1.5 billion, down 1.6%, but the smart phone market will grow by 4.5%. The PC (desktop and laptop) market will bottom in 2016.
Although the global smartphone market continues to grow this year, its strength has slowed down compared with previous years, the report said. "It’s not surprising that the smartphone market is maturing and approaching saturation as it becomes more powerful and has a longer life span," said Roberta Geza, director of research at the agency
The introduction of more affordable top models from Chinese manufacturers will contribute to the growth of the smartphone market. "Chinese brands such as Huawei, oppo and vivo continue to work towards the high end, making the price range of RMB 1500-2500 the mainstream market of smart phones in China this year," said LV junkuan, chief analyst of Gartner
The report industry analyzed the PC market in 2016 and expects its overall shipments to decline by 8%.
According to Ranjit Edwards, research director of Gartner, the growth rate of PC market in Western Europe finally reached a nearly flat performance in the second quarter of 2016, but before that, the market has declined for four consecutive quarters. If this downturn continues, it will drag global PC sales to the bottom in 2016.
