Huawei’s Hisilicon semiconductor is competing for 5g market chips, or shaking the throne of apple. The snipe and clam fight each other for profit, so TSMC benefits
TSMC, the global leader in wafer foundry, has a significant lead over other competitors in advanced manufacturing process, which also makes the competition between China and the United States in film casting more and more intense. Huawei’s Hisilicon semiconductor is competing for market share, challenging the throne of apple, the leader of American intelligent machine, which benefits TSMC.
Apple slashed supply chain orders after sales of iPhones and iPads in the Chinese market cooled. The fact that Huawei’s Hisilicon is ahead of TSMC’s investment and over capacity makes Hisilicon take the lead in the first half of 2019. Whether it can continue the business opportunities created by Huawei in the global 5g market and maintain the leading advantage in the second half of 2019 depends on the development of apple after its recovery.
Huawei plans to make all-out efforts in the 5g era, and Hisilicon’s related mobile communication chip shipments have also developed, but it may take a while to beat Apple’s position in TSMC’s customer list overnight. In terms of the current 7:3 ratio of Huawei’s mobile phone in chip manufacturing (TSMC) and outsourcing (Qualcomm, MediaTek and other manufacturers), if Hisilicon wants to surpass apple, Huawei’s annual mobile phone shipments must first exceed 300 million. That is to say, unless Huawei becomes the world’s first mobile phone brand, and the impact of inventory adjustment and slack season is eliminated, it is difficult for Huawei to surpass apple in 2019.
Huawei’s determination and perseverance to invest in chip research and development are beyond the imagination of the outside world. Huawei’s 5g communication technology specifications and standards in the world at this stage have given Hisilicon a strong momentum in TSMC’s chip investment, which can be seen from TSMC’s development of 5 / 7 / 10 nanometer advanced process technology.
However, Hisilicon is also catching up, even occasionally overtaking. It is clearly to cooperate with Huawei’s strategic layout in the global 5g era. As a result, the semiconductor industry chain has changed, and further changes the global chip market.
